design thinking
Traditionally we have always thought of design as a very superficial process that an elite few would utilise to create products, services, advertising, buildings, and naturally items from the artistic arena such as crafts, paintings, etc. The process of design, namely deisgn thinking has evolved to become a structured approach towards innovation.
The current trend involved in the process of creating new things (innovation) and solving problems is design thinking. It involves multidisciplinary groups that come together, build a collaborative culture, and explore the bridging multi-dimensionalities that ultimately lead to innovation.
Stanford’s dschool is a new initiative that will teach design thinking and strategy to business, engineering, and design students. The dschool is founded by Stanford engineering professor David Kelley, also founder of IDEO – the pioneer of design thinking for businesses. The dschool might well be the business school of the future as innovation becomes the focus of businesses.
